About
Peter Kulvets
Guitar teacher · Performer · SF Bay Area & online via Zoom

Music is a conversation. Let me help you find your voice.
I've been playing guitar my entire life — from my first Beatles chords as a teenager to performing classical and flamenco pieces on stages across the world. Along the way, I discovered something important: the best way to learn guitar is through music that means something to you.
That's the foundation of my teaching philosophy. Whether you want to play “Wonderwall” or “Stairway to Heaven” on day one, work toward Bach's Bourrée, accompany yourself singing Sinatra and Ed Sheeran, or eventually tackle Paco de Lucía's “Entre dos Aguas” — I meet every student where they are and guide them toward where they want to be.
I teach rock, pop, classical, and flamenco — plus Bossa Nova and jazz standards. Lessons happen in person across the SF Bay Area or online via Zoom, so distance, a tight schedule, or a long commute is never the thing standing between you and the guitar. Personalized, structured, and — most importantly — fun.
What I bring to every lesson
- Decades of performance and teaching experience
- Rock & pop favorites — Beatles, Green Day, Ed Sheeran, John Mayer
- Jazz standards & Bossa Nova — Sinatra-era ballads, Jobim's “Girl from Ipanema”
- Classical repertoire — Bach, Sor, Tárrega, Albéniz, Villa-Lobos
- Flamenco tradition — Paco de Lucía, Vicente Amigo, the language of Andalusia
- Students of all ages — from children to retirees
- Passionate advocate for learning through music you love
My philosophy
How I approach teaching
Songs first
We start with music that excites you. Technique follows naturally when you're motivated to play.
Patience & progress
Every student learns at their own pace. I celebrate every milestone — no matter how small it seems.
Lifelong love
My goal isn't just to teach guitar — it's to give you a lifelong relationship with music.
